Member institutions of Glass at Risk recently welcomed Richard Graef to Washington for a panel and demonstration entitled “Perfection: The Laurent Crystal Flute, 1807-1848” at the Library of Congress’ Coolidge Auditorium. Graef recently retired as the Assistant Principal Flautist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a position he held since 1968. He also teaches at Northwestern, Indiana, and Roosevelt Universities. In 2018, after a grandchild at George Washington University sent him an article about Glass at Risk and the research done on Laurent flutes at the Library of Congress, Graef reached out to learn more about the project, since he was especially interested in learning more about his own Laurent glass flute.

Graef’s performance, with the accompanying panel discussion, at “Perfection: The Laurent Crystal Flute, 1807-1848”, will be available soon on the Library of Congress YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/LibraryOfCongress. To read more about this event, see Presentations.
